Running, Jumping, and Lunging in the Grass over 40

May 30, 2018 By Erin Tracy, Medical Qi Gong and Health Coaching

I never guessed that I would be running, jumping, and lunging in the across a field at 46 years old!

Mother’s Day weekend, I went to an open space with my two active teenagers to play with a Frisbee like thing called Aerobie.  None of us were particularly skilled at aiming when we started and plus the wind interfered a bit as we remembered our skills.  That meant I was running, jumping, lunging for this awesome toy before sending it soaring again across the lawn to the next kid.  It was totally fun!

At some point I realized that I hadn’t played like that in quite some time. As I felt my foot land on uneven Earth as I ran or jumped, I wondered briefly if I would have sore ankles the next day. Or sore knees.

I wondered if I might be generally sore or even hurt from playing so hard

I wondered if I might just be generally sore or even hurt from playing so hard doing something I had not done in a very long time. Then, as I continued to toss, run, and catch, I realized that I felt incredibly energized and JAZZED in my body.  I also realized that 10 years ago, I would not have had the motivation or energy to play as I was playing now.  If I had, the physical pain I would have experienced would have shut it down pretty quick.

Guess what? I felt great the next day.  No soreness at all from the intense frolicking.  I considered how I might have felt 10 or 20 years ago after playing like that.  I would have been a stiff mess and surely would have hurt knee or ankle or back.

How great I feel in my body now, I owe to the practice of Pangu Shengong.

I owe how great I feel in my body now, in my mid-forties, to the practice of Pangu Shengong.  My health is great, I rarely get sick – and if I do it is very short lived – I am enjoying my life and my family in ways I never thought possible.  My anxiety is nearly non-existent and I sleep well and wake rested.  This is not how I experienced life in my 20s and 30s.  I have much gratitude for learning to cultivate and balance my energy, emotions, and spirit though a Qi Gong practice called Pangu Shengong.

Coming the weekend of June 22-25, my teacher Qi Gong GrandMaster Ou, Wen Wei will be in Raleigh for an annual visit. If you are new to the concept of Qi (life force), Qi Gong (cultivation of life force) and improving you health and life with this practice you may want to attend a lecture and meditation event on Saturday Morning June 23, 9-10;30am.  Master Ou will be sharing about Pangu Shengong and also sharing healing energy.  The cost to attend this event which is also a fundraiser for the Golden Hill Foundation is only $25 or $35 per family.  The Golden Hill Foundation is a local non profit that seeks to bring qi gong, meditation, mindfulness, tai chi and yoga to at-risk youth and their familes in the Raleigh area.

Following this lecture and meditation will be the Foundational Qi Cultivation Moving Form Qi Gong class from 11-12:30pm.  This is the first level of Pangu Shengong.  Many of you seeing this may have taken this Moving Form Qi Gong from me or another ceritified instructor.  You can retake it with Master Ou for $60.  It is powerful to retake any of Pangu Shengong classes.  I always retake these classes when I have the opportunity. The rest of the schedule for the weekend is at http://www.pangu.org/events/raleigh-2018/

Turning Point

June 2, 2017 By Erin Tracy, Medical Qi Gong and Health Coaching

A few years ago, I needed a Turning Point. I struggled with moderate-to-severe digestive issues, chronic pain, insomnia, constant skin rashes, and high blood pressure. I was not yet 40 years old. Joy was missing from my life – however I was in such a constant state of anxiety and overwhelm, I didn’t even know that joy was missing.  I had martyr-like tendencies where I stayed ruffled, felt unappreciated, and a claimed myself a victim of circumstance.

Somewhere in the back of mind, deep in my heart, was this truth.

I have recently been reconnected to it through one of my teachers, Qi Gong Master Ou.

Emptied, free from antipathy

Deeply, quietly humble

Steady, unwavering calm

So that I May Be Filled with Unconditional Love

This wisdom above, a common sentiment from many different faiths, was something that I have strived my entire life to embody. However, as my stress level was through the roof, my health was declining, and a constant state of “not enough” pervaded all that I did, I couldn’t connect to this sentiment which I first learned through my own faith, Christianity.

Empty – free from antipathy; deeply, quietly, humble; steady unwavering calm.

I knew that I needed to find ways to manage the stress of my family life, my health, and being self-employed in a family business.

I understood that I needed to re-connect to calm with an open and tolerant heart for what I was experiencing.  I longed for a way to enjoy life again and to feel well.  Although I sought guidance, experienced many approaches, and learned many tools, (and they helped a little), my health concerns and anxiety continued to plague me.

Then, in March 2012, My Turning Point.

I learned Pangu Shengong Foundational Qi Cultivation Moving Form Qi Gong from Qi Gong Master Wen Wei Ou.  This highly effective, efficient, and balncing practice of energy cultivation, woke up some forgotten part of me. Immediately, I felt hope returning. My blood pressure regulated within two weeks. Other health issues began to improve. My ability to relax and enjoy moments in life returned.  Spiritual teachings began to make sense and my faith (that I didn’t know I had lost) was found again.

I know now that the reason that I could not experience this level of calm before, was that I didn’t possess enough foundational energy. I was quite literally depleted and out of balance.

The very interesting, curious, and fairly unique thing about this Qi Gong practice is that Pangu Shengong foundational Moving Form has this mantra/prayer/password at its core:

Take Kindness and Benevolence as Basis; Take Frankness and Friendliness to Heart.

This idea of kindness and unconditional love begins to strengthen and heal the heart and soul beyond just the physical body.  While I understand that other Qi Gong methods can help support and heal the physical body, the power behind the central tenet cannot be underestimated. It is one of the many aspects of Pangu Shengong Moving Form Qi Gong that allows it to be so immediately helpful and settling for the practitioner.

I am in the best health of my life. I am the happiest I can ever remember being. I sleep well and wake up rested. I have enough energy to do the things I choose to do in a day. While life still has its stressors, I allow the circumstances of the moment. Generally, I have the peace of mind to “roll with things” yet diligently persevere with my calling and responsibilities.

Pangu Shengong is a gift that I am thankful for every day.

It continues to strengthen me and allow me to deeply learn and integrate so that I can support others.

I hope you will take advantage of this upcoming opportunity as Master Ou returns to Raleigh this month. Here’s the registration page.

Please contact me if you are unsure which classes are best for you.

Cultivate Love and Kindness – Save the Planet

March 1, 2017 By Erin Tracy, Medical Qi Gong and Health Coaching

Choosing to cultivate love rather than anger might just be what it takes to save the planet from extinction.
-Pema Chödrön

I have been thinking about how we treat each other as fellow inhabitants of this planet. I considered the teachings of my faith, the spiritual teachings of other faiths, and what I have learned from my many earthly teachers in the last few years.  Despite my own upbringing (and the spiritual and moral upbringing of most people I know), we don’t always choose Kindness and Benevolence as the basis for all that we do.

So, why don’t we? It is certainly more pleasant when more of us choose authentic kindness.  I, personally, want to be a part of a more pleasant planet. People who change their patterns of unkind action, words, and thoughts (their own and how they respond to that in others) generally find that such pattern change reduces their perceived stress and it enhances the healing process.

pema chodron quote

Here are some things I am fairly clear on:

  • When someone acts in a way that I perceive as unkind or unjust, I remind myself that I cannot control another.  I have no idea what their actual intentions and motivations are (I may think I do, but I truly don’t). I attempt not to take it personally for that reason.  Behavior that is continually unkind, unjust, selfish usually leads to me choosing to spend less time in that person’s presence.
  • It is never a justifiable, life-affirming action for me or anyone else to be purposefully be unkind or physically or emotionally hurtful. Telling myself that someone “had it coming” is truly not useful in the long run.  [Communicating boundaries or dislike for behavior with a clear and open-hearted intention is not unkind.]
  • My emotions and feelings are up to me and within my control.  Blaming someone else for my [insert unpleasant emotion here], takes away my personal power and leads me to identify as a victim.
  • Emotions themselves aren’t toxic.  Very simply put, what costs me is choosing to STAY with a thought pattern that isn’t serving me.   For example, anger itself isn’t “wrong” or “bad”.  However, verbally or physically attacking someone out of anger has a cost to the soul, not to mention our relationship with that person. By the same token, unexpressed anger can lead to a story in our heads of resentment, indignation, and blame. A story in our head based on resentment, indignation, and blame is not healthy, stresses the body, and eventually sets up the conditions for disease or physical ailments.
  • Balanced and resilient people have emotional states are not static – they MOVE and CHANGE.  In my experience working with clients,  the more we practice presence and the more we become crystal clear about our responsibility for our emotions, the more content and secure we become. We become MASTERS of not taking anything personally (or at least realizing it when we are and owning it as our CHOICE).

So what about when people are intentionally not kind or are disrespectful to others?

And when we ourselves choose to be unkind to others? There is usually a deep seated unresolved issue of insecurity (which comes from fear).  The ego is at play; the ego is protecting itself. [Love that part of you that wants to protect you.]

Do want to you to curb your own unkind language and thoughts towards others? We all know when we do it.  It can be especially easy to do with others who seem to regularly not treat us kindly.  We justify such retorts with a “what comes around goes around”. Does choosing a different pattern interest you?

What if you were catch yourself in the act of being impatient, unkind, or cutting with another (even just in your head)?

What if you got curious in that moment and dove in deeper to your own intention and motivation for the unkind language?

“What was really bumped into there that precipitated my attack/bluntness/retort/scathing criticism?”

“What am I holding onto as SO important that I am justifying talking to another this way?”

“Is there some other way I can “matter-of-factly” communicate my needs and point of view that is more open-hearted and less about bring “right”.

It’s not always easy to choose kindness.

However, I hold hope we can choose kindness more often, deliberately. Especially when it isn’t expected, we can make shifts in our own little world. Then continue the revolution to “save” the collective planet.

There are always ways we can invite shifts and openness into our lives.  Consider this Free Event if you live in Wake County:

Wanted to touch base with you about Ql Gong and my feelings.  First, each time I [practice Qi Gong] my hands get very warm and a little tingly.  Second, I have been falling asleep much quicker than before and I haven’t been waking up during the night, getting 6 to 7 hrs of uninterrupted sleep. And last, I feel more calm overall, not so quick to anger.  I feel like these are all positive results. Looking forward to my next visit.
